FOUNDER of THE CENTER FOR MEDIA DEMOCRACY, John Stauber is an independent writer, organizer and activist.  He has co-authored six books including the best-sellers Toxic Sludge Is Good for You in 1995,  Trust Us We’re Experts in 2001 and a New York Times best-seller Weapons of Mass Deception in 2003.

His activism began in high school in the late 1960s by his organizing student support for the local civil rights movement, organizing against the USA's war on Vietnam and co-organizing a student-led high school teach-in for the first Earth Day in 1970. He has then since worked with or founded many non-profit research, advocacy and community-based organizations.

In 1993 he founded the non-profit Center for Media and Democracy in Madison, Wisconsin to investigate and expose organized corporate and government propaganda, running it for sixteen years until retiring in 2009.

He lives in rural Wisconsin and continues his investigative reporting on the Center for Media Democracy's PR Watch, Counterpunch, and Common Dreams.org .
