Dr. Michael Soulé is commonly known as the father of conservation biology. He organized the first and second Conferences on Conservation Biology in 1978 and 1985, was the Society of Conservation Biology's first President, is an AAAS Fellow and Past President of the Board of The Wildlands Project. One of the world's leading experts in population biology and island biogeography theory, he is the author or editor of seminal books including Conservation Biology: An Evolutionary-Ecological Synthesis, Conservation and Evolution, Viable Populations for Conservation, and Research Priorities for Conservation Biology. This last book defines the research priorities for the next decade in the field of conservation biology. It includes species at risk, human alterations of food webs, exotic species, habitat fragmentation, soil and sediment invertebrates, oceans, health sciences, global environmental change, and ecological restoration. This is a must-have resource for biologists, resource managers, and policy makers.
