Dan Janzen is Dimaura Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Technical Advisor to the Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) in northwestern Costa Rica. Dr. Janzen's research pioneered key parts of large and complex contemporary research areas in basic and applied tropical ecology. In 1985, Dr. Janzen moved into tropical conservation. The ACG was decreed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is the working model for the revision of the entire Costa Rican national park system, forest service, and fish and wildlife service. It is internationally viewed as one of the best tropical examples of conservation through biodiversity development.
